Vietnam vets adopt-a-unit
Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) and the Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America (AVVA) Palestine chapter 991 will hold their regular monthly meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m.
AVVA meeting will begin one hour earlier, 6 p.m. Both meetings will be held at the Disabled American Veterans Hall at 927 Gardner Drive in Palestine.
Information on the Adopt a Unit program will be provided, and plans will be made to visit a different nursing home each month.
Guests at the meeting will be Honor Flights of East Texas, who take WWII veterans to Washington DC at no charge to see the WWII memorial.
VVA membership is open to U.S. Armed Force Veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28, 1961 and May 7, 1975 or Vietnam Era Veterans in any duty location between Aug. 5, 1964 and May 7, 1975.
Some members arrive early to visit with fellow veterans. Spouses and other guests are also welcome at the meeting. For information, call Allan Ayo at 903-322-4850.
