WJHS athletes go undefeated
Wortham junior high school produced a pair of winning teams that went undefeated in the recently concluded basketball season.
Posting perfect marks were the seventh grade girls and eighth grade boys.
For the eighth grade boys, the 2009-10 season was their second perfect year on the court. In addition, the team compiled an 8-0 football record last fall.
Playing for the 12-0 seventh grade girls’ team were Taylor McGlone, Samantha Martinez, Ashley Anderson, Kameron Rhodes, Kamirie Freeman, Abby Allen, Tanisha Brackens, Lyndsey Fautt, Elisha Libhart and Courtney Chasteen.
Members of the 12-0 eighth grade boys’ team were Bryson Rhodes, Tyvon Freeman, Kyle Chasteen, Dylan Shelton, Martel Jefferson, T.J. Shaw, Stephen Hutson, Devin Session, Michael Busby and Cody Beck.
Boys’ coach Leroy Johnson reports the team averaged more than 30 points per game, led by Rhodes, 19.2 points per game, and Freeman, 12.6 points.
Johnson also notes that the starting defense did not allow a point during the season.
