WWII planes to make stop at Palestine

Two World War II bomber aircraft and a fighter plane come to Palestine next month as part of the national Wings of Freedom tour.

The tour is organized by Collings Foundation as a living history event, allowing people to learn more about their heritage and history through direct participation.

Wings of Freedom is in its 21st year and annually visits an average of 110 cities in 35 states.

Landing at Palestine Municipal Airport are a Boeing B-17 and Consolidated B-24 bomber, North American P-51 Mustang fighter and a UYH1-E Huey helicopter.

The stop is March 8-10. Ground tours are from 2- 4:30 p.m. March 8, 9 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. March 9 and 9 a.m.-noon March 10.

Area residents can also take rides on the historic aircraft, for a fee. Flights on the bombers are $425 per person, and are $2,200 for 30 minutes in the Mustang. A 10-minute ride in the Huey is $100 for a front seat and $80 for a bench seat.
