Sales tax revenue drops
The City of Fairfield continues a downward trend in sales tax revenue with its February reimbursement check coming in 19.22 percent less than a year ago.
Fairfield receives $200,041 this month, compared to $247,639 reimbursed in February 2009.
Revenue this month is based on collections made on December retail sales and reported to the state comptroller in January.
For the past six months, sales tax revenue has been down in a month-to-month comparison with the prior year.
So far this year, the city has received $323,109, down 29.57 percent from the $458,772 reimbursed in January and February 2009.
Teague is reimbursed $58,438 this month, down 4.56 percent from the February 2009 payment of $61,236. Payments this year are down 12.88 percent, from $104,231 to $90,802.
Wortham shows a 24.53 percent increase with a February check for $14,321, up from $11,499. Wortham sales tax revenue has increased 47.96 percent this year, from $18,571 to $27,479.
Streetman receives $3,177 this month, up 9.03 percent from the $2,914 reimbursed last February. Payments this year have increased 36.43 percent, from $4,147 to $5,657.
Communities in Anderson county experience a 19.89 percent decline in sales tax revenue this month, receiving checks totaling $597,756 compared to $746,184 last February.
For the year, payments in Anderson county are down 15.73 percent, from $1.2 million to $1 million.
Leon county communities receive checks totaling $140,821 this month, down 11.12 percent from the $158,452 reimbursed last February. For the year, payments are down 20.88 percent, from $296,217 to $234,360.
Bucking the downward trend are Limestone and Navarro counties.
In Limestone county, reimbursement checks total $334,828 this month, up 7.37 percent from the $311,821 received last February. Payments this year, though, are down 13.21 percent, from $657,404 to $570,558.
Navarro county sales tax revenue totals $574,137, up 1.5 percent from the February 2009 tally of $565,649. Payments this year, however, are down 3.64 percent, from $976,098 to $940,525.
Houston receives the largest February reimbursement, $51.4 million, down 12.4 percent from a year ago.
The City of Dallas is reimbursed $22.6 million this month, down 4.15 percent from last February.
The comptroller sent sales tax revenue checks to 1,136 cities this month totaling $417.8 million, a drop of 6.71 percent from a year ago.
