Funeral services for Mrs. Patsy Armstrong Garrett, 71, were held February 11 at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Interment followed at Mexia Cemetery.

Mrs. Garrett passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2010, in Groesbeck.

Born at home to William and Barbara Armstrong on September 9, 1938, in Chandler Bottom near Lanely, Mrs. Garrett graduated from Teague high school with the class of 1957. While attending high school, she worked for James Neale at City Drug Store in Teague and met Gerald Garrett there. The couple were married June 1, 1957, and had three children. They lived in Houston for many years before returning to Teague in 1978.

Mrs. Garrett worked for Teague General Hospital and later Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia until retiring in 2001. She later returned to work for the Teague Hospital District.

While in Houston, Mrs. Garrett was a member of West University Church of Christ and Sharpstown Church of Christ. After returning to Teague, she became an active member of the Teague Church of Christ. Through the years, she was involved with bus ministry, served as a Sunday school teacher, and worked on the church bulletin.

Mrs. Garrett enjoyed spending time with her family, both immediate and extended, for holidays, family reunions, or no occasion at all. She made many lifelong friends, staying in touch with classmates and friends until her illness made it impossible. Mrs. Garrett enjoyed being busy doing things at home or just riding around in a car, and she loved to go dancing with her sisters. She danced for hours with her nephew at the last wedding reception she was able to attend, already suffering from the effects of Alzheimer’s disease. She also loved spending time with her precious grandson, J.D.

Survivors are her mother, Barbara Armstrong of Teague; children, Russell Garrett and wife Wanda of Dawson, Richard Garrett of Teague, and Rhonda Bruhin and husband Lonnie of Irving; her special grandson, J. D. Garrett, the light of her life;

Two sisters, Joy Kennedy and very special brother-in-law, Bobby, and Connie Wilson of Waco; sister-in-law Carolyn Sowers of Clifton; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who loved her and she greatly loved in return. She will be missed by all.

Mrs. Garrett was preceded in death by her father, William Armstrong; brother, James Armstrong; and the father of her children, Gerald Garrett.
