Postmaster ceremony set

Official swearing-in ceremony for Fairfield Postmaster Wendy Mensch Martin by U.S. Rep Joe Barton is set for Thursday, Feb. 18.

The ceremony and reception is at 3:30 p.m. at Fairfield Civic Center in W.L. Moody Reunion Grounds.

Mrs. Martin reports that postmasters often are sworn in by higher ranking U.S. Postal Service officials, but that other governmental officials can also be used.

“It makes it more special to get your congressman to do it,” she says. “He is tickled pink to do it.”

The Fairfield Postmaster has been on the job here since mid September, taking over from officer in charge Greg Kazmierczak who managed the facility after the retirement of Paul Johnson in 2009.

Mrs. Martin was serving as officer in charge at the Buffalo Post Office when appointed to Fairfield.

She also has served as officer in charge at Streetman and postmaster at Donie and Jewett.

The postmaster is the daughter of Artie and Carol Mensch of Teague and is a 1994 graduate of Fairfield high school.

She and her husband, Lance, are parents of a son, Garrett, who is a third grade student in Teague.
