Fairfield mayor seeks new term

Candidates for city and school offices could start filing for the spring elections Monday, but few did.

In all, 19 city council, mayor and school board trustee positions will be on ballots to be filled in May 8 voting across Freestone county.

Candidates, in what is standard operating procedure, are not rushing to throw their hats in the ring. That will happen as they size up any competition prior to the close of filings on March 8.

The most activity so far is in the City of Fairfield--- three incumbents filed Monday for re-election.

On ballots early are Mayor Roy Hill and city council members Joe Lee Kirgan, Jr., in place one and Luke Ward, Jr., in place two.

Still needing a hopeful is the 1-year unexpired portion of a term for council place four.

Fairfield Independent School must fill three atlarge places on its board of trustees, Teague ISD must fill two spots and Wortham ISD has a pair of places on the ballot.

Filing Tuesday morning for re-election to place four on the TISD board was Jeff Gonzales.

The City of Teague needs a slate of five candidates, for mayor, two full council terms and two unexpired terms.

Wortham voters will fill three at-large seats on the council.

Up for election in Streetman are the office of mayor and two at-large places on the city commission.
