FREESTONE COUNTY DEPUTY Richard McGowan inspects a pickup truck driven by Robbie Kline of Fairfield that hit a tree head-on Sunday on a county road. Kline was taken from the scene by a medical helicopter to a Tyler hospital. A Fairfield man heading home after watching the Superbowl football game Sunday evening sustained serious injuries when his pickup truck struck a tree on FCR 141.

Injured was Robbie Kline, 40, who was taken by medical helicopter from the scene to a hospital in Tyler.

The wreck occurred at 8:58 p.m. and was reported by cellular telephone by the victim, Department of Public Safety Trooper Clay Zotz says.

Kline was driving south on FCR 141, heading to his home in Fairfield after watching the Superbowl at a friend’s home in the Streetman area, the trooper reports.

The 40-year-old failed to negotiate a curve on the oil sand road, sideswiped a tree with the left side of his GMC Canyon pickup truck, then struck a tree head-on.

Impact of the crash shoved the engine of the pickup into the passenger compartment.

Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department personnel employed the “Jaws of Life” to remove the driver’s side door of the truck so that Fairfield Emergency Medical Service attendants could extract the victim from the vehicle.

Zotz reports that Kline sustained a compound leg fracture, broken jaw, multiple neck fractures and multiple lacerations.

The wreck remains under investigation.
