Fairfield boys win powerlifting meet
A TOTAL OF 171 ATHLETES competed in the Fairfield Invitational powerlifting meet held Saturday at Johnson Activity Center.
Members of the Fairfield high school powerlifting teams claimed first place in six weight classes Saturday at the Fairfield Invitational meet.
The top finishes propelled the boys’ team to first place and the girls’ team to third place.
Entered in the meet were 110 boys and 61 girls from area high schools.
Coach John Bachtel reports that 15 Fairfield boys placed in the meet, but results from only 11 could be counted toward the team total.
In the boys’ super heavyweight division, FHS senior Eli Pratt hoisted a total of 1,380 pounds to capture first place. His lifts were 550 pounds in squat, 370 in bench press and 460 in dead lift.
On the opposite end of the scale, the 114-pound class, junior Garrett Thompson claimed the gold medal with a 3-lift total of 735 pounds.

Moving up a division, to 123 pounds, Fairfield junior Tulio Cordon won with a total of 885 pounds, posting the highest poundage in each of the three lifts.
Senior athlete Lamar O’Brien notched his third meet win of the season, lifting a total of 1,200 pounds in the 181-pound class.
Claiming the gold in the 242-pound class with a 3- lift total of 1,455 pounds was junior Cory Black, while teammate Brock Eggleston, a senior student, placed second with a 1,310-pound total.
Junior Robert Jackson tallied 1,280 pounds to win the 275-pound class.
In the girls’ meet, Carly Hasslebach recorded three lifts totaling 435 pounds to win the 105-pound class.
Senior lifter Cally Hardwick, who competed at state last year, posted a 755-pound total to win the 148-pound class. Her efforts were 300 pounds in squat, 140 in bench press and 315 in dead lift.
