FJHS girls play Lady Panthers

Lady Eagles cagers at Fairfield junior high school counted one win in three games last week against the Palestine Westwood Lady Panthers.

The district games were played at home.

Fairfield eighth grade A team waged a hard fought battle against the Lady Panthers before emerging victorious 30-28.

The Lady Eagles matched points with Westwood in the first period, 10-10, then added 12 in the second period to lead 22-15 at the half.

Palestine, however, rallied to narrow the FJHS margin to 24-23 in the fourth period and the game was tied 28-all with eight seconds remaining.

Fairfield inbounded the ball to Peyton Pierce who put up a shot from near the 3-point line to take the win.

“We made a lot of mistakes in this game, but pulled through at the end,” coach Brandy Lynch reports.

In double digits with 11 points was Miss Pierce.

Also scoring were: Karonesha Lowery, 5; Kayli Banks, 5; Bree Bossier, 4; Tiara Tatum, 3; Camry Whitehead, 2.

Leading rebounders were Misses Tatum and Whitehead.

The FJHS seventh grade A team trailed 10-25 at the half and dropped a 15-40 decision to the Lady Panthers.

In double digits with 12 points was Hannah Spradlin.

Also scoring were: Allie Edwards, 8; Caitlyn Stone, 8; Sarie Hill, 4; Susan Owens, 3; Brooke Johnson, 2; Jaida Smith, 2; and Keyosha Bass, 1.

Fairfield seventh grade cagers were shut out from scoring until the fourth period in a 3-18 loss.

“It was a tough game,” coach Lia Frederick says. “Hopefully, this week will give us some time to work out the kinks.”

Scoring for Fairfield were: Sam Benford, 2; and Ellen Ezell, 1.

Westwood did not have a eighth grade B team.

The Lady Eagles wrap up the basketball season this week in games with the Crockett Lady Bulldogs.
