City, school office filings open Monday

Candidates for school boards and city offices can start filing Monday for elections slated May 8.

All total, Freestone county voters elect 19 candidates.

Hopefuls may file for election from Monday through March 8.

School board trustees serve 3-year terms and city officials serve for two years.

On tap this spring for City of Fairfield voters is election of a mayor and filling three seats on the council, one of which is for the remaining year of an unexpired term.

In those offices are Mayor Roy Hill and councilmen Joe Lee Kirgan, Jr., in place one and Luke Ward, Jr., in place two. The unexpired term is for post that was occupied by the late Lane Stripling.

Fairfield school board members whose terms are expiring are Teresa Vandiver, LaCharles Bass and Steve Schauwecker. Fairfield trustees are elected at-large.

Because of a couple of vacancies, Teague city voters must fill four out of five council seats, and elect a mayor. Currently serving, and with terms expiring, are Mayor Jacquelyn Utsey and aldermen James Monks in place one and Dickie Moore in place three. Vacant are places four and five.

Teague Independent School District voters will elect two members to the board of trustees, posts currently held by Scott Hamilton in place two and Jeff Gonzales in place four.

Wortham ISD has two spots, place three held by Brent Jones and place four held by Scott Spencer, up for election this year.

The City of Wortham elects council members atlarge and must elect members for seats currently held by Albert Hall, Cliff Nesmith and Frank A. McLellan.

Dew ISD holds its trustee election in November.

Early voting will be conducted April 26-May 4.
