FJHS girls play 4 games
Cagers on the Fairfield junior high school Lady Eagles squads won just a single game out of four played last week against the Brownsboro Lady Bears.
The district matchups were played at Brownsboro.
Marking down a 25-18 win was the Fairfield eighth grade A team.
“We fought hard against Brownsboro’s zone defense and came out on top,” coach Brandy Lynch reports.
The Lady Eagles got off to a fast start, taking a 13-1 first period lead, but managed just a point in the second period to lead 14-11 at intermission.
Fairfield tallied six points in the third period and five in the fourth, giving up two and five, to claim the victory.
Scoring for the Lady Eagles were: Tiara Tatum, 8; Bree Bossier, 7; Karonesha Lowery, 3; Kayli Banks, 3; Peyton Pierce, 2; and Kendell Emmons, 2.
Leading rebounders were Misses Bossier and Emmons.
Fouling out of the game was Miss Banks.
In seventh grade A action, the FJHS quintet matched the Lady Bear’s four first period points, then were outscored in the second period to trail 6-10 at the half.
The Lady Eagles were outscored 4-11 in the third period and won the final stanza 11-4, but could not close the gap in a 21-25 loss.
Reaching double digits with 11 points was Caitlyn Stone.
Also scoring were: Allie Edwards, 5; Jaida Smith, 2; Amanda Autrand, 2; and Hannah Spradlin, 1.
Fairfield eighth grade B cagers dropped a heartbreaker 18-19.
“We came out playing soft and it took a few minutes to warm up and get work done,” coach Lia Frederick reports.
“Overall, I’m not upset with the game. There were many things that were out of our control and the girls didn’t let that affect them,” she adds.
The Lady Eagles seventh grade B squad dropped a 7- 9 decision to Brownsboro.
“We are still struggling to play with aggression and tenacity. Hopefully, the next few games will show improvement in those areas,” coach Frederick says.
FJHS cagers play Athens this Thursday at home and host area teams in a tournament Saturday.
