Fairfield Recycle Team started a telephone book recycle drive this week that runs through Friday, Jan. 29.

Area residents and business owners are encouraged to dropp off their outof date telephone books at the Fairfield Independent School District administration building on Post Oak Road for recycling.

Books may be dropped off from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. daily.

Fairfield students also will collect telephone books as a class competition, with the winning classes receiving prizes.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency reports that each ton of telephone books recycled can save 17 trees, enough energy to power a home for a year, 3.3 cubic yards of landfill place and 7,000 gallons of water, plus reduce greenhouse gas emissions by a metric ton of carbon equivalent.

Recycle team leader is high school mathematics teacher Nicole Crawford.
