Sheriff’s Report Number 471- Loose cattle on well site, FCR-536. FEMS to PR-215, pain in left arm. FPD contacted, 911 caller advises has reservation at local motel but they won’t let him in. Lady on Oak Street with altered mental state, FEMS to same. Deputy Robert Elom dealing with problem in Kirvin…..man calls, said trying to return stepchild to mother after visitation, arrives at child’s mother’s residence to drop off but the house is vacant, not just of people but everything! Contact made by Mr. Elom with the mother…..She’s now moved to West, Texas…..Arrangements made for the child swap to take place in Corsicana.

Wife says husband hit her, FCR-237, Deputies Elom and McGowan to same, parties separated for the night. FPD, FEMS, DPS and Fairfield VFD to 4 vehicle accident at Mickey D’s. THDEMS to Teague Gym, 26 year old with chest pains. Cows in yard, FCR-263. Wortham VFD to assist with structure fire, Hwy 171. FEMS to FCR-502 twice, the first time the callers husband had passed out, revived, refused treatment. She later called back, said he’d done it again, and WOULD MOST DEFINITELY go to the hospital this time, unconscious or conscious….. He was going!

One ex-neighbor accuses another of stealing their porno magazines! Lady calls Dispatch, said while at the Mustang Club in Angus, an acquaintance stole their car ( it belongs to Grandma). Gave her Navarro County S.O.’s telephone number. Vehicle forces another off road, Mile 193, Deputies Harrison and Taylor to same. Lady on Washington just got in from work, can see someone walking around in house, TPD Reed and Martin to same.

Deputy Aldrich to loose cow, North FM-80. Dispute over missing items, Lakewood. Stray cows picked up by Deputies Aldrich and McClelland, Donie area. Deputies Walker and Elom to loose cows, FCR-351. DPS Adams to vehicle/tree accident, FCR-930. FEMS to FCR-502, husband very weak, passed out yesterday. TPD Sykora to assist with keys locked in car. Repo Joe in County again, Teague this time. Did he find his target? Yep, 2 payments behind….now afoot.

Low frequency noise complaints, Lanely. Game Warden Hernandez and Dep. House to report of trespassing coon hunters, FCR-481. FEMS to severe abdominal pains, FCRSheriff’s 502. Mexia EMS and Teague First Responders to Boyd Unit, chest pains. Deputy Aldrich to suspicious vehicle, FCR-877. 17 month old on FCR-431 having fun dialing 911…..For a little while anyway….. Up until the adults were told about it!

Little Jimmy Abrams stuck in mud, rescued by Brett Myers. Southern Oaks VFD and FEMS to Kingsview, Lady passed out in bathroom, been sick, but husband allowed didn’t know she was THAT sick. FPD to allegation of missing money from local business. DPS PUTZ and FEMS to accident, FM-27, Mini-Van and Garbage Truck. Report of starving donkeys, FCR-261. TxDOT to tree down, FM- 2547.

Another tree down, TxDOT to same, FM-1580. Loose hosses, FM-489 at FCR-261, one sorrel, one white. Mexia EMS to FCR-901, man very ill. TPD Howard to Ash, kids locked inside car with keys, engine running. Deputy Shipley to report of missing items, business on US-84. FEMS and Streetman VFD to North FM-80, young Lady with severe stomach pains, 6 months pregnant.

Informed of strange happenings in District Courtroom recently…..The place is packed, Jurors all present, Attorneys with staff members, people in the audience…..Everyone’s attention suddenly drawn to the clock mounted high on the front wall…..The minute hand suddenly began going round and round at a far greater rate than even the second hand was traveling!.....Everyone in the Courtroom was suddenly drawn to the peculiar antics of the clock…..Later, the reason for this was discovered. Apparently, this is one of those “Atomic” clocks…..which periodically has the correct time updated automatically from another state. It finally reset itself at the correct time and stopped its shenanigans.

DPS Zotz and Mexia VFD and EMS to West 84 accident. Navarro Electric to tree on line, FCR-275. Fairfield, Teague and Southern Oaks VFD’s to structure on fire at Big Brown. Man turns self in to Dep. Diana Willis on Warrant at Jail. Mexia EMS to Wortham High, student with problems. Report of 18- Wheeler driving bad, caller reports he’s working on his laptop. Deputies House and Robertson to residence west of Fairfield, resident under a Protective Order. He was the one who had called for help. Thought folks on neighboring place were wanting to hurt him. No others were located or observed. Found to have two weapons on his property, one in his pocket, arrested, Unlawful Possession of Firearm. He had violated his Protective Order by having same.

TPD Cordova observes car driving badly, no tail lights. When stopped, he reeked of an alcoholic beverage, plus had vomit running down his chin and on his clothing. When informed that he had no tail lights, he said “Oh, really .” Whereupon he reached down and turned on the windshield wipers! By the way… It wasn’t raining. Now right here folks, Officer Cordova has really homed in on the fact that he was probably dealing with a DWI….And this was solidified for him as he next attempted to have the driver perform a One-Legged Stand for him (An approved method of determining DWI)…..when he raised his foot, he promptly fell over on the ground. On went the cuffs, out came the Miranda Warning, then a ride to the Jail. Next came the offer to submit to an Intoxilyzer Test, but our buddy the DWI was an honest individual….He declined the Intoxilyzer Test……Said he would just fail…..No sense wasting everybody’s time and effort!

Deputies McGowan and Robertson deal with reported reckless driver, FCR-790. THDEMS to Washington, Lady barely breathing. Deputy Elom impounds horses, FM- 489 North. Mexia EMS and DPS Putz to roll-over accident, US-84. Dep. Aultman to report of suspicious vehicle, Sugar Hill. FEMS to nose bleed, Cedar Grove RV.

Deputy McGowan discovers open gate at Lide’s. BNSF crew to malfunctioning Cross Arms at Rail Road, Teague. Deputy Mcgowan and DPS Putz jail DWI, US-84. Also to vehicle/deer accident, US- 287. Teague City Worker to water leak on Pecan. Lady on FCR-1235 calls, someone knocking around her house and fixing to land a helicopter on the roof. About a foot of water reported in the Old Teague Nursing Home on Mulberry. Meanwhile, the Nursing Home on Moody in Fairfield has another water leak, but believe this was outside on the patio. And Clyde Allen called to another water problem, a few miles south of Dew, tank leaking, water getting onto highway and freezing. TxDOT also to same with sand.

Our Condolences to the Day Family this week on the death of their Loved One. Mrs. Day spent her time on this earth in a most commendable manner…..98 years to be exact. A Mother, Grandmother, Teacher….she leaves behind a long list of those whose lives she touched in a most positive way. I can think of no better epitath.

DPS Curtis Putz arrests motorist on US-84, Bexar County Warrant. Deputy McGowan has speeder try to flee on FM- 80, when he finally gives up and stops, found to be drinking, under age, to Jail. Another water leak, Hwy-179 near Kilgore Trailer Park, freezing on pavement.

Massive water leak behind Leon’s Garage in Teague. Yep, cold weather played some tricks on us the last few days. We’ve had several mild years of winter and probably most of us just assumed that our plumbing was fixed for cold weather just as good as the last time we had to fool with it…..But, no, it wasn’t, nothing stayed the same during those years of milder temperatures. And according to the Weather Man, it has been 13 years since our temperatures have plunged this low.

*During this same week of January in 1823, permission was granted by the Mexican Government to settle 300 American families in the area we now know of as Texas. Moses Austin was the grantee but he would soon die, his efforts to be carried on by his son Stephen F. Austin. They were intended as a buffer for protection against the Indians, but within 13 years those same colonists, with the assistance of other newcomers, would be battling for the creation of their very own Republic.

*And also during this same month of January, but in the year 1901, an amazing discovery was made which would have a huge impact both within our state, as well as our nation. We are still heavily involved with this discovery and each year that goes by we make further strides toward capitalizing upon our good fortune. The Lucas Gusher came in at a remote spot in Southeastern Texas, just outside of Beaumont. Imagine our State today without having made this discovery. This discovery 109 years ago led to an entirely new industry, luring it away from Pennsylvania, and giving our state our very own facsimiles of the John D. Rockefeller types, most with a unique Texas twist.

Thus we close out another week of the Sheriff’s Report. It seemed a bit slower than normal but I guess we can attribute that to the Arctic Blast. Most folks just tried to stay inside where it was warm, and that helped our business tremendously.
