*During this same week in 1845 the Republic of Texas officially ceased to exist. It had existed as an independent Republic from 1836 to 1845. These years were tumultuous, historic, and filled our present State with enough tales to form the nucleus for generations to come. On Dec. 29th, 1845 Texas was welcomed into the Union as the only State to have formerly been a sovereign and independent Nation. A War with Mexico would immediately follow, fought over the strip of land between the Rio Grande and Nueces Rivers. Mexico would lose the war, plus thousands of square miles of land stretching to the Pacific in the West and as far north as present day Wyoming. President James K. Polk was serving in the White House…..An interesting man. During his term the United States grew more geographically than with any other President….But a largely ignored President, with little information about him ever appearing this century and a half later.

Door shotgunned, metal building entered, property stolen, FCR-1001, Deputy Rick Howerton to same. Disappearing/Reappearing donkeys causing problems, disappeared from Turlington, magically reappeared at Jerusalem…..Now, folks, right here, at this Christmas-New Year time of the year, you may think I’m weaving a tale of Old Jerusalem, tiny Bethlehem and a Babe in swaddling clothes….But, I’m not. This turned out to be a tale of donkeys wanted by one family member, not wanted by another, the kidnapping and trailering of our long-eared friends to the pasture of another, who had no knowledge of their coming, their dropping off, nor their staying…..That is until he, the owner of the pasture, found them in his pasture! Now he was the innocent recipient. No ties with the other parties. But he sure had a nice bunch of donkeys, just couldn’t figure out how they had got over the cattleguard and through the locked gate…..All is now being set aright now….the donkeys are back home, the family members may simmer for awhile, but, blood is thicker than water. On second thought, the tale does have a Biblical touch…..Especially if I close with these simple words….This too shall pass!......Verily, Verily I say.

Officers responded from throughout the County ready for a siege. As it turned out, the caller was high on pills or something, hallucinating, changing his location, etc. But our Officers were able to locate and arrest the man without resorting to lethal force.
