Unemployment rate drops
The unemployment rate in Freestone county dropped to 6.4 percent during November, figures just released by Texas Workforce Commission show.
Unemployment has been stuck at 6.7 percent for the preceding two months.
In November, the TWC commission reports that 701 Freestone residents were jobless out of a total labor force of 10,991.
The rate for the county is considerably lower that the Texas figure of eight percent, which dropped from 8.3 percent in October, and is the lowest in the area.
“Texas employers added a significant number of jobs in most industries during October and November,” TWC chairman Tom Pauken says. “Job growth coupled with a lower unemployment rate indicate movement in a positive direction for Texas.
The Freestone county rate is at its lowest level since June when it was pegged at 6.2 percent. The county started the year with a five percent rate.
Highest unemployment rate in the area, 8.9 percent, is in Anderson county where 1,944 workers are jobless out of a total labor force of 21,770.
Anderson county, though, experienced a drop from 9.3 percent in October.
Next to Freestone county, the lowest unemployment rate in the area is 6.9 percent in Limestone county, which saw the figure drop from seven percent a month earlier. Out of a total labor force of 11,259 in November, there were 784 persons out of work.
Leon county posts a November unemployment rate of 7.9 percent with 648 persons jobless out of a total labor force of 8,254. The October rate in Leon county was 8.1 percent.
Unemployment in Navarro county was 8.2 percent in November unchanged from a month earlier. Out of a total labor force of 22,049, there were 1,802 workers unemployed.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the United States was 10 percent in November.
The Amarillo Metropolitan Statistical Area experience the lowest unemployment rate in the state at 5.3 percent, followed by Lubbock MSA with 5.4 percent and the Midland MSA with 5.6 percent.
Unemployment in the McAllen-Edinburg- Mission area came in at 11.2 percent for November.
