Students attend conferences

From Wortham junior high school . . .

Student council members from Wortham junior high school attended the Middle School State Student Council Conference in Austin last month, sponsored by the Texas Association of Student Councils.

Students attended sessions covering teacher appreciation, drug awareness, energy and the environment, pride and patriotism, and community service.

While in Austin, the group, led by coordinator Tammy McCord, also visited the state capitol and the Bob Bullock Museum.

This year, student council members sponsored the Halloween Dance and the hunk and honey contest, voted to pay $5 toward all student field trip tickets, held a teacher breakfast on Dec. 2, ran a concession stand for junior high basketball and the middle school UIL contest, and went to the nursing home for a bingo Christmas party.

Officers are president Katie Looney, vice president Camey Shaffer, secretary Hannah McCord, treasurer Kelsie Haley, reporter Brook White and parliamentarian Randle Chambers.

Sixth grade members are Trinity Shivers, Kendle Rhodes, Kole Haley, Kateley Craig, Taylor Robinson, Brooke Salisbury, Erin Ray, Allison Nix, Sam Ray, Taylor Johnson, Jordan Lansford and James Hargis.

Representing the seventh grade are Kameron Rhodes, Kamarie Freeman, Lindsey Fautt, Sam Martinez, Taylor McGlone and Justin Hargis.

From the eighth grade are Larissa Rivera, Rebeca Cardenas, Scarlett Miller, Teresa Menchaca, Drew Jenkins and Michael Busby.

A group of seventh grade students attended a math and science conference on Dec. 5 sponsored by Texas A&M University. Students attended three sessions, ate pizza, and watched a chemistry road show. They also received t- shirts commemmorating the event.

Attending were Alexis Durham, Trinity Shivers, Brooke Salisbury, Taylor Robinson, Allison Nix, Erin Ray and Sarah Trantham.
