Fairfield junior high school Lady Eagles A teams claimed a pair of wins last week against the Crockett Lady Bulldogs.

The games were played in Fairfield and wrap up action until Jan. 7 when the teams travel to Palestine.

Lady Eagles eighth grade A cagers blasted the Lady Bulldogs 22-4 the first half, then slacked up to score just 10 points the second half and claim a lopsided 38-12 win.

“This was a very physical game. I’m proud of how my girls handled the intensity of this game,” coach Brandy Lynch says.

She reports that her team scored several times in the second half off of the motion offense.

Reaching double digits with 10 points was Kayli Banks.

Also scoring were: Tiara Tatum, 9; Peyton Pierce, 6; Kendell Emmons, 6; and Karonesha Lowery, 3.

The team hit a few 3- point shots and made four of six free throws.

“We finished off 2009 undefeated. I look forward to continuing this trend in the new year,” coach Lynch says.

In seventh grade A action, the Lady Eagles took an 8-3 lead the first period, then exploded for 18 second period points to take a 26-5 advantage into intermission.

Fairfield tallied 16 points the third period and 11 in the final stanza for a 53-15 victory.

“The 7A girls finished 2009 with a great team effort against Crockett. The dominated with a fast break offense and aggressive defense,” coach Naffie Mooney reports.

Scoring in double digits, 10 points, was Jaida Smith.

Also scoring were: Brooke Johnson, 8; Hannah Spradlin, 8; Allie Edwards, 8; Caitlynn Stone, 6; Keyosha Bass, 6; Sarie Hill, 4; and Meagan Lott, 3.

Miss Spradlin grabbed five defensive and two offensive rebounds, and Miss Bass pulled down three offensive boards.

Crockett did not have an eighth grade B team, so the FJHS squad split and scrimmaged, with the Maroon team winning.

“It was a high-paced game. The girls are really progressing well with skill and plays,” coach Lia Frederick says.

Scoring in the scrimmage were: Megan Hodges, 8; Kamry Whitehead, 8; Brianne Faughn, 2; Amanda Autrand, 2; and Cynthia Hidalgo, 2.

The FJHS seventh grade B team had its hands full with the Lady Bulldogs, falling behind 2-4 the first period but managing to tie the contest 4-all at the half.

Fairfield took an 8-6 lead in the third period but were blanked in the final stanza to drop an 8-12 decision.

“Crockett played us close. The girls learned a little bit about intensity,” coach Frederick says.

“We still have fundamentals to clean up, but each week they’re improving,” she adds.

Scoring for the Lady Eagles were: Amanda Autrand, 6; and Amber Akers, 2.
