FJHS Eagles play Crockett
Eagles basketball teams at Fairfield junior high school won two of four games last week against the Crockett Bulldogs.
The contests were played at Crockett and wrap up action until Jan. 7 when the Eagles host the Palestine Wildcats.
In eighth grade A action, the Eagles jumped out to an 18-8 lead the first period and added 10 points in the second period to take a 28-12 advantage into the half.
Fairfield tallied six points the third period and 11 in the fourth, giving up 13 and 11, to win 45-36.
“We played a strong first half, then faltered a little coming out in the third quarter,” coach Lynn Caffey reports. “I was proud of our guys that when Crockett made a move on us, we didn’t panic.”
The coach points out that the team needs to work on not getting in a big hurry, keeping the pace controlled.
Reaching double digits was Larry Rose, 14 points.
Also scoring were: Bryson Gates, 9; Luke Rachel, 6; Wyatt Curry, 6; Danny Cockerell, 4; Jacob Gallegos, 3; Byron Mireles, 2; and Cade Warren, 1.
Top rebounders were Gates, Rachel and Curry.
Fairfield seventh grade A cagers grabbed a slim 5-4 lead the first period and widened that to 18-10 by half-time.
The Eagles scored 10 points the third period and eight in the fourth, giving up six and 13, to win 36-29.
“We just keep getting better every game. This team is doing what it takes to win games,” coach Clint Elliott says.
Scoring for Fairfield were: Chance Carroll, 7; Dedrick Garner, 6; Cam Adams, 6; Christian Lee, 4; Rahiem Hayes, 4; and Ryan Kuhlman, 2.
The FJHS seventh grade B team fell to Crockett 4-12 and the eighth grade B quintet fell 9-32.
