Frosh, jv boys play tourney
The Fairfield high school Eagles junior varsity basketball team took first place and the freshmen team placed second in a tournament played recently in Marlin.
Because the two teams had faced each other earlier in the tourney, when they matched up for the championship game they did not play—-coaches agreed to give the jv the title because they had won the earlier matchup.
Eagles jv cagers beat China Spring in the first round 39-33 and the frosh defeated Hillsboro.
The Fairfield teams met each other in the second round with the jv coming out on top 29-20.
From there, the Eagles jv downed Marlin 58-33 to advance to the title tilt.
Fairfield frosh cagers dropped down to the loser’s bracket after the game against the jv, besting China Spring 47-43 and Marlin 67-49 to advance to the championship contest.
“All the guys contributed in some form or fashion to win this tournament,” Fairfield jv coach Jody Walker says.
Playing for the jv were Cooper Vandiver, Darius Roberts, Blake Davis, Jeffery Carter, Tad Cannon, Luke Taylor, Xavier Betts, Nick Munoz, Austin Henley, Richard Hatcher and Ernest Becks.
On the frosh squad were Gerardo Castro, Cooper Cole, Will Akers, Josh Munoz, Will Doyle, Jackson, Andre Welch, Lyles, Samuel, Hayden Hill, Zach Pratt and Deonte Carr.
