FJHS Lady Eagles win pair

A pair of victories went into the scorebooks for the Fairfield junior high school Lady Eagles basketball teams when they faced off against the Palestine Westwood Lady Panthers.

The schools played three games at Westwood. There was no eighth grade B game.

Fairfield eighth grade A cagers trailed the Lady Panthers 7-8 the first period then hit for 10 second period points to take a 17-9 lead into intermission.

The Lady Eagles blanked Westwood in the third period, extending the lead to 23- 9, and added seven points in the final stanza to win 30-13.

“Our press has continued to improve throughout the season and it was evident in this game,” coach Brandy Lynch reports.

“I’m proud of my girls for always coming out ready to play with intensity,” she adds.

Scoring for the Lady Eagles were: Tiara Tatum, 8; Karonesha Lowery, 6; Kendell Emmons, 4; Samantha Walls, 4; Kayli Banks, 2; Taylor Gray, 2; and Bree Bossier, 2.

Leading rebounders were Amber Williams and Miss Walls.

The Lady Eagles seventh grade A quintet beat the Lady Panthers by a 37-19 margin.

“The girls are playing good basketball, both fundamentally and skillfully,” coach Naffie Mooney says. Reaching double digits were Caitlynn Stone, 15 points, and Allie Edwards, 12 points.

Also scoring were: Hannah Spradlin, 4; Sarie Hill, 2; Susan Owens, 2; and Jaida Smith, 2.

In seventh grade B action, the FJHS squad led 4-2 in the first period and were tied 4-all at the half.

The two teams each tallied two points in the third period and the Lady Eagles were bested in the fourth period to drop a 7-9 decision.

“We’re getting more agressive, but have a long way to go,” coach Lia Frederick says.

Scoring for Fairfield were: Amanda Autrand, 4; Amber Akers, 2; and Sonia Barahona, 1.
