Grand jury hears criminal charges

A total of 17 felony criminal indictements were returned last week by Freestone county grand jurors.

The grand jury convened Tuesday, Dec. 1, for its regular monthly session at the courthouse in Fairfield.

Charges on which action was taken include credit card abuse, manufacture or delivery of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine, possession of methamphetamine, driving while intoxicated, prohibited item in a correctional facility, aggravated sexual assault of a child, theft, indecency with a child, possession or promotion of child pornography, criminally negligent homicide and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Indicted by the grand jury were:

—Cory Don Marine, 29, of Fairfield on a Sept. 17 charge of credit card abuse, allegedly using an Exxon Mobil credit card without authorization that was issued to Gary Don Marine.

—Christopher Garza, 19, of Waco on a complaint of manufacture or delivery of methamphetamine on Oct. 22.

—Jacob Scott Brown, 19, of Waco on a complaint of manufacture or delivery of methamphetamine on Oct. 22.

—Matthew Henderson, 20, of Valley Mills on a complaint of manufacture or delivery of methamphetamine on Oct. 22.

—Ashley Dawn King, 19, of Waco on a complaint of manufacture or delivery of methamphetamine on Oct. 22.

—Sedric Earl Turner, 59, of Fairfield on a Nov. 2 charge of possession of cocaine.

—John Tate Smith, 52, of Fairfield on a Nov. 2 charge of possession of cocaine.

—Paul David Byars, 30, of Palestine on a complaint of possession of methamphetamine on Oct. 23.

—Billy James Bennett, 53, of Richland on a charge of DWI on Oct. 31. The indictment shows three prior DWI convictions.

—Alexander Mims, 26, of Fairfield on a complaint of prohibited weapon in a correctional facility, allegedly providing a cellular telephone to a Boyd Unit state prison inmate on July 21.

—William Greg Dale, 49, of Flower Mound on a May 24 charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child under the age of 14.

—William Greg Dale, 49, of Flower Mound on a May 24 charge of indecency with a child under the age of 17.

—Charles Edward Griffin, 20, of Fairfield on a charge of felony theft over $1,500, citing 23 instances from February-November.
