You may not be able to count on 'em for anything else, but with those big ol' feet they've got…..they're right in their element. Wortham man calls, two cows shot in pasture, but believe on the Navarro County side.

Area Officers involved in chase that came out of Navarro County, a stolen car down Hwy. 14. Deputy Harrison involved in same until boxed in on grounds of Mexia State School. Deputy Harrison dropped out of the pursuit, leaving it up to multiple local units, more familiar with the area roads. About two minutes later, the driver swerved toward a Mexia City Policeman, who fired with his service pistol. The driver, at last report, was wounded.

Dispatcher Retha gets double dose of a chewing out from Lady who had reported her electricity out. After sleuthing by Retha, she discovers that the Lady's original 911 call had been received by another County. They sent their people to the same address in their County (Oh, yes, most don't think of this, but it is very common, other Counties make use of exactly the same numbers that we have to deal with, whether house number or road number, there is much repetition county to county), found no problem with electricity being out, for them, case closed. When the Lady called the second time, we still had no knowledge of her predicament, being out of electricity. Retha had the angry Lady make another 911 Call, on her cell phone, just like her first attempt…..It went straight to the same agency as before!…..Bottom Line- If you make ANY type of call to 911, if at all possible, DO IT ON A HARD-WIRED PHONE, not a cell phone. Also, I'd suggest that if your electricity is off, then you look the number up in the phone book and you call the electric company yourself. When we are called, we merely become a "middleman." Every week, I write about 911 Bounces, this event is a perfect example. If the call does not come into our County Dispatch, we have no way to know of your emergency. Use an old-fashioned, through the telephone wires type of phone. Cell Phones are great, but for an Emergency, only use them if nothing else is available…..And if you are forced to 911 on a cell….Make certain that you ask the operator for their location in order to make certain that your call has not bounced out of county on another tower. Remember, cell phones go to the tower that receives it, they do not recognize any type of County Line.

Hay roll in road, OLD 75 and US-84. Suspicious vehicle, FCR-920, Deputy Shipley to same….Nope, man had cows out, looking for same. FEMS, Dew VFD and DPS to accident, Mile 187. TPD Cordova involved in chase from Main to Busby to Jefferson to Tyler….Female driver now in Jail on multiple charges. DPS Zotz gets another, Old 75, Parole violator. And Dep Shaw in with yet another, Warrant for Criminal Mischief, FCR-517. Small Child dials 911, wishes all a "Happy Thanksgiving", hangs up immediately, then calls right back, says "Hello- Bye", then hangs up again.

Fairfield VFD to small fire near S. Bateman. Dew VFD and FEMS to PR-435, car fell on young man. TPD Sykora to ETMC, someone just carried from Teague with dogbite. All in a hurry, Houstonites going to Dallas, Dallasites going to Houston. I hope every one of them made it in one piece, enjoyed their Thanksgiving and make it home with no mishaps. Holiday weekends in our location is roughly analogous to the occurrence in far northern Europe every 5-10 years when the lemmings march into the sea. None know why they do it…They just do, committing mass suicide by drowning, thinning their numbers.

Game Warden John Thorne to Trespass report, Lanely. People Troubles, Freestone Trailer Park, TPD Sykora and Martin dealing with same. THDEMS, Dew VFD and DPS Zotz to rollover, Mile 192. FEMS to breathing troubles, FCR-502.

Donie VFD turned out just as they were sitting down to Thanksgiving Dinner, FM- 489….Hope they made it back before the food all got cold! Loose Pit Bull on Cypress. Well known frequent flyer calling again….many, many times again! All by himself, zero family or friends, very probably drinking, Thanksgiving Day. He generally waits until Friday or Saturday night, but this being Thanksgiving, he started early, guess he had a few extra cases of beer purchased this week to handle the long weekend. Always abusive, the kind you pity, just so ignorant. Has threatened suicide hundreds of times, and one time, came close to pulling it off.

House to FCR- 1260, one brother wants to file on another. FEMS to N. Hall, complications from surgery. TPD Reed to report of man attempting to abduct girl by luring into car.

Long Fax received from group called "Faithful and Determined Citizens of the United States" concerning overthrow of government, swine flu referred to as "planned flu", and on and on. Apparently every Sheriff in the United States is being bombarded with this at the same time. Sent me a booklet last week, a Fax this week, am sure more will follow. It takes all kinds…..I suppose it is what makes life interesting.

Teague VFD and THDEMS to Mulberry, breathing troubles. 911 Call zings in, ambulance needed in Oakwood, Leon County SO advised.

Heavy duty meal enjoyed by Inmates on Thanksgiving, followed by desserts, football games and heavy snoring…..Not necessarily in that order!

Until Next Week . . . RALPH BILLINGS
