Straight Talk on the Swine Flu was the topic of the Fairfield History Club's November meeting. Guest speaker was Dr. Joseph Berger, III, of ETMC Fairfield.

The meeting opened with the pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags led by Patricia Tate. Kay Neal read the "Moment from the Past" which featured excerpts from the minutes of October 15 and 29 and November 15 of 1931.

Dr. Berger was introduced by History Club member and ETMC administrator Raz Cook. Dr. Berger talked about the differences between the seasonal and swine flu and reviewed the symptoms of both. An informative question and answer session followed the program.

Dr. Berger referred the group to a website, www.TexasFlu.org, for information regardingthe seasonal and swine flu.

The club thanked Dr. Berger for speaking on this topic, especially for those who were unable to attend the October 27 town hall meeting on the swine flu.

Fairfield high school sophomore and InterAct Club member, Bailey Akers spoke to members about the group which is the school/student counterpart to Rotary International. Miss Akers spoke briefly giving an overview of the club's purpose, their ongoing projects and recent accomplishments. InterAct will be selling desserts at the History Club's upcoming Concert on the Green— Crazy 'bout Patsy to raise money for their projects and will also assist with parking at the event. The History Club also presented the InterAct Club with a donation check for $200.

During the business meeting, Patricia Tate, Trinity District's TFWC Historical Foundation Trustee, gave an update on the "2312 Foundation", which raises funds tomaintain TFWC's Headquarters at 2312 San Gabriel in Austin.

The Historical Foundation is also making a series of six Keep Texas Beautiful Christmas ornaments available for sale as a fundraiser. The ornaments are designed by Nelda Laney, wife of former Texas House Speaker Pete Laney. Contact Mrs. Tate at 903-389-2945 to purchase.

Melinda Bonds gave an update on the "Crazy 'bout Patsy" concert November 14. If enough tickets can be sold, a matinee show will be added. Janie Richards made a proposal to have a folkart acrylic painting commissioned from which numbered and signed prints and possibly note cards would be made and sold as a fundraiser. The folkart artist was featured at the recent "Art Crawl" which opened on September 24 at the Moody-Bradley House. Since members had questions regarding print size availability and the minimum order for prints, Janie will contact the artist for that information and report back to the club in December.
