Students honored, activities held, funds raised . . .

Freestone county 4-H members have been busy the last couple of months with honors, appointments and fundraisers, reports county extension agent Nick Hoffman.

Fairfield 4-H Club member, Taylor Edwards- Adcock was honored by the State Fair of Texas at their annual Honor Awards Banquet. The State Fair uses the banquet to honor all 4-H and FFA state officers. Miss Edwards- Adcock was elected to the State 4-H Council in June.

The month of October began with National 4-H Week, and area 4-H members collected more than 300 pounds of canned food goods from 4-H members and other citizens of Freestone county. The canned foods were taken to the Lord's Community Storehouse in Teague and the River of Life Food Pantry in Fairfield.

Several 4-H members exhibited their livestock projects at the Heart of Texas Fair in Waco. Lauran Adcock of Fairfield 4-H won reserve breed champion with her Shorthorn heifer. Several members also participated at the Heart of Texas Fair Livestock Judging Contest, where Emily Holmes of Freestone Community 4-H was 10th high individual.

Eleven members made the trip to College Station on November 7 to participate at the Aggiefest Livestock Judging Contest. Freestone Community 4-H member Trevor Cooper placed seventh high individual in the beef division.

On October 19, Jacob Sessions was honored at the District 8 Gold Star Banquet in Waco. Sessions received the Gold Star Award at the Freestone County 4-H banquet in August.

Several photography entries submitted by 4-H members were on display at the Heart of Texas Fair. The photographs are now on display at the extension office, and everyone is welcome to stop by and take a look.

Several members advanced to the district food show held in Belton. Skylar Jordan, Ainsly Richardson, Gabby Miller, and Cole Jendel made up a team that placed third in the fruits and vegetables. Kateley Craig, Devin Sessions, Scarlett Miller and Blake Hutson placed fifth in nutritious snacks as a team. Jasmine Lynch, Ashley Anthony, and Reyneesha Jones placed fourth as a team with their main dish entry while Whitney Chrisley, Jaclyn Black, Jordan Jendel, Hannah Richardson, and Kenzie Sessions placed fifth as team in the fruits and vegetables category.
