FJHS spikers close out '09
Fairfield junior high school Lady Eagles volleyball teams closed out the 2009 season last week with matches against the Athens Lady Hornets.
The season finales were played in Fairfield.
Lady Eagles seventh grade A spikers started slowly against the Lady Hornets, dropping the first game 16-25, and recovered to win the next two 25-18, 25-19 and take the match.
"The girls played hard tonight. We put it all together and finished off the season with a huge win over Athens," coach Brandy Lynch says.
In an earlier meeting of the teams, Athens claimed the win.
"I'm so proud of my team for all they've accomplished this year," coach Lynch says.
Top servers in the match were Susan Owens and Jaida Smith, and best hustlers were Caitlynn Stone, Sarie Hill and Abby Judd.
The Fairfield eighth grade A team fell to Athens in two games 18-25, 13-25.
"This wasn't our best game, but I'm proud of my girls and have seen them grow significantly throughout this season," coach Lia Frederick reports.
Best hustlers were Bree Bossier, Tiara Tatum and Megan Hodges, and most consistent servers were Kayli Banks and Miss Hodges.
Lady Eagles seventh grade B spikers dropped the first game with the Lady Hornets 13-25 and won the second 25-14 to wind up with a tie.
"The 7B girls split with Athens in the final game of the season. The girls, as a whole, learned a lot about teamwork and dedication this season and should improve greatly next season as eighth graders," coach Naffie Mooney says.
Best hustlers were Ellen Ezell, Justice Oates and Hannah Spradlin, and most consistent server was Meagan Lott.
Fairfield eighth grade B spikers dropped a decision to Athens in two games 13- 25, 16-19.
"The 8B girls finished their volleyball season with a lot of enthusiasm and hustle, but unfortunately fell to Athens," coach Mooney says.
"The girls improved greatly this season and will do well next year," she adds.
Best hustlers were Haylee Worley, Madison Alexander and Peyton Pierce.
