Wortham girls win x-country

THE WORTHAM GIRLS' varsity cross country team took first place recently at a meet they hosted. The Wortham high school girls' varsity cross country team counted four top-10 finishes recently to win a meet hosted by Wortham schools.

The WHS boys' varsity team finished third.

Taking overall first place with a time of 13:06 minutes over two miles was Amber Libhart of Wortham.

She was followed closely by teammate Ashley Rhodes, third place in 13:52, Whitney Chrisley, eighth place in 15:11, and Deundrea Johnson, ninth place in 15:12.

Rounding out the squad was Jasmine Bailey, 12th place in 15:24.

The WHS girls tallied 23 points to win the meet, Itasca was second with 52 points, Corsicana was third with 58 points and Kerens was fourth with 79 points.

Italy, Hubbard, Mexia and Mildred entered individual runners in the meet.

The boys' varsity division was won by Itasca with 29 points, Mildred scored 44 for second and Wortham was third with 81.

Fourth place went to Dawson, 82 points, Italy scored 108 for fifth and individual runners were entered by Hubbard, Corsicana, Mexia and Grand Prairie Academy.

Fastest time in the boys' varsity division was 18:24 over the 3-mile course.

Wortham harrier Jody McDaniel led his team with a 16th place finish and time of 22:19.

Rounding out the team were: 20, Brandon Lansford, 22:55; 24, Holden McCord, 24:51; 27, Ethan Lansford, 26:42; and 28, Vernon Busby, 26:44.

Corsicana runners posted a perfect score of 15 points to win the girls' jv division and Itasca won the boys' jv meet.
