Street repair bids get council okay
Work should begin again soon on street improvements in Fairfield after city council members awarded a bid to Simon Traylor and Sons, Inc. of Jacksonville for Phase II of the street projects at the city's regular meeting held last week.
This phase includes Main Street from Bateman to Harmon, South Mount from highway 84 to Reunion, Keechi from Main to Gregg, Hall from Main to Gregg, Comanche from Bateman to Harmon, Reunion from Texas 75 to Walker and N. Mount from Main to Gregg.
Simon Traylor and Sons submitted the low bid of $196,534.95 and earned the recommendation of KSA Engineers and the city after successfully completing Phase I of Fairfield's street improvements.
Particular mention was made of damage on Oak Street that has not been repaired. "Oak Street is considered a top priority for paving," Fairfield Mayor Roy Hill noted, adding, "as soon as the weather is clear."
A bid was awarded last week to Angelina Construction for phase II road work in Fairfield Industrial Park. Angelina is low bidder with an estimated cost of $91,040. This will provide an additional entrance into the park.
Subdivision plat for Fairfield Industrial Park Phase II was also accepted and approved.
Reappointment of Monte Cole and John Alford to the FIDC board of directors was approved. The new terms will expire Oct. 31, 2012.
Also, Mike Fuller was nominated by the council members to fill the post available on the Freestone Central Appraisal District board
A high pressure mainline easement, flowline easement and low pressure mainline easement were granted to Trend Gathering and Treatment. The land on which the right of ways were provided is in the southwest area of Walnut Creek.
After an executive session, city officials accepted the resignation of water and wastewater superintendent Scott Schick, and approved hiring Harold Markham and Sean Frasier as new city police officers, and Christopher Henderson in a public works position.
Before the meeting was adjourned, city manager Jeff Looney told the council about a holiday event the city is planning next weekend, which includes Halloween on the square from 5 to 8 p.m., followed by a movie at the fairgrounds at 8:30 p.m. "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein."
