Deputy makes drug arrest

A Freestone county man was jailed last week on charges of manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance when a routine traffic stop turned up 22 grams of suspected "crystal" methamphetamine.

In Freestone county jail under $75,000 bond is Samuel Lee Salvato, 29.

The arrest was made by Lt. Robert Willis on Wednesday, Sept. 30, when he noticed a pickup on Hwy. 179 near Dew that did not have a front license plate, Sheriff Ralph Billings reports.

The driver of the pickup was not able to provide the officer with a driver's license or proof of insurance, but was identified by Willis as Salvato, the sheriff says.

A search of the vehicle turned up a plastic bag containing 22 grams of a substance believed to be "crystal" methamphetamine and Salvato was arrested.

The sheriff notes that the suspect's name was written on the plastic bag containing the suspected drugs, which was discovered in the glove box area of the vehicle.

Investigation is continuing by deputies.
