354 compete in Golden Eagle Run

Fairfield varsity girls place second . . .

A brother and sister set of twins, Fairfield high school senior students Lilly and Lando Duarte, won the varsity divisions Saturday at the annual Golden Eagle Run cross country meet.

The Fairfield girls' varsity team took second place and the boys' varsity squad finished sixth in its division.

A total of 354 senior and junior high runners competed.

The meet was hosted by Fairfield on the cross country track located behind the baseball field complex on Post Oak Road. Fairfield hosts the District 20-AAA meet on Monday, Oct. 26.

Miss Duarte ran 3,200 meters in 12:19.6 minutes, crossing the finish line 16 seconds ahead of the second place runner. She also won in 2008.

The varsity girls' division was won by Ennis, who totaled 32 points, and Fairfield counted 51 points for second place.

Also turning in a top 10 finish for the Fairfield girls was Natalie Neill, taking sixth in 13:50.5.

Rounding out the Fairfield team were: 12, Kathleen Chappell, 14:12.2; 23, Katie Berger, 14:44.3; 24, Desiree Hodges, 14:49.1; 32, Mia Mayo, 15:26.8; and Kassi Floyd, 15:55.1.

Duarte was clocked at 16:55.7 over 5,000 meters to win the boys' varsity division, finishing 39 seconds ahead of the second place runner.

Ennis scored 60 points to win the boys' varsity division and Madisonville scored 88 for second place.

Other team totals were: Malakoff, 96; Crockett, 111; Trinity Valley, 118; Fairfield, 129; Mildred, 153; Rice, 222; Corsicana, 242; Groesbeck, 257; Teague, 269; Riesel, 278; and Buffalo, 358.

The Fairfield girls' junior varsity team tallied 76 points for fourth place behind Ennis, 32; Westwood, 52; and Corsicana, 63.

Fastest time in the jv division was 14:10.1 over 3,200 meters, posted by Kristin Bain of Cayuga.

Pacing the Fairfield girls' jv was Brittany Heard, finishing fifth in a time of 15:10.1.

Other jv places and times were: 16, Amy Lansford, 16:55.3; 21, Erica Flori, 17:33.7; 22, Amber Lehman, 17:43.5; Kati Gardner, 18:42.9; and 27, Sarah Sloat, 18:47.5.

The boys' jv race of 5,000 meters was won by Bobby Sharp of Cayuga, posting a time of 19:33.6. Cayuga fielded the only full team in the meet and Fairfield had no boys' jv runners.

Fairfield junior high girls tallied 23 points to win the team title at the Golden Eagle Run.

Other team totals were: Groesbeck, 76; Mildred, 103; Ennis, 114; Westwood, 125; Grapeland, 140; Riesel, 160; and Madisonville, 185.

A pair of Fairfield runners, Megan Hodges and Sarie Hill took the first two places in the junior high girls' division. Miss Hodges ran 3,200 meters in 14:09.9 and Miss Hill turned in a time of 14:13.4.

Also in the top 10 for FJHS were Peyton Pierce, fifth in 14:42.3, Caitlynn Stone, seventh in 14:50.8, and Jaida Smith, 14:52.8.

Rounding out the Fairfield team were: 11, Brooke Johnson, 15:11.5; 18, Kayli Banks, 15:20.1; 23, Hannan Spradlin, 15:37.3; 28, Kayla Mitchell, 15:56.7; 31, Bree Bossier, 19:04.1; 72, Alexis Canter, 19:08; and 83, Justice Oates, 21:32.7.

The FJHS boys' squad scored 47 points to finish second behind Grapeland, 42.

Other team totals were Blooming Grove, 89; Ennis, 107; Groesbeck, 122; Malakoff, 129; and Riesel, 140.

First across the finish line in the 3,200-meter race was Trent Graham of Ennis, posting a time of 11:58.5.

The Fairfield team was paced by Devin Eggins, sixth in 12:53.8, and Donald O'Brien, seventh in 13:02.7.

Rounding out the FJHS boys' team were: 11, Addison Snell, 13:30; 13, Cade Warren, 13:38.9; 15, Brockton Higgins, 14:07.6; 36, William Higgins, 15:58.7; 41, Jon Cain, 16:18.6; and 49, Cade Carroll, 17:36.

The cross country teams are idle this week and run Saturday, Oct. 17, at Palestine Westwood.
