FHS harriers run at Baylor

Members of the Fairfield high school high school cross country teams turned in some respectable times Saturday at the Baylor Invitational meet run at Waco.

The meet included separate races for boys' and girls' varsity and junior varsity teams.

Best performance by a Fairfield harrier was second place by Lilly Duarte in the girls' varsity division. Miss Duarte ran the 3,200- meter race in 13:14.7 minutes, just 12 seconds off the first place time in a field of 141 contestants.

The Fairfield team tallied 198 points for eighth place out of 19 teams.

Rounding out the varsity squad were: 22, Natalie Neill, 14:29.6; 49, Kathleen Chappell, 15:26.3; 66, Katie Berger, 15:51.9; 86, Desiree Hodges, 16:34.4; and 103, Mia Mayo, 17:04.

Pacing the FHS boys' varsity team was Lando Duarte who ran the 5-kilometer race in 18:35.3 for 14th place in a field of 177.

Winning time in the race was 16:49.

The Fairfield boys tallied 207 points for sixth place out of 23 teams.

Rounding out the team were: 40, Matthew Peine, 19:53.9; 46, Javier Duarte, 20:11.3; 58, Fernando Bonilla, 20:26.1; and 60, Brandon Pfleeger, 20:28.

The FHS girls' jv team finished ninth out of nine teams in the Baylor meet.

First across the finish line for Fairfield was Kassi Floyd, who ran 3,200 meters in 17:29.9 for 48th place.

Winning time was 14:17.1.

Rounding out the jv squad were: 59, Amber Lehman, 17:59.9; 77, Brittany Heard, 19:04.6; 81, Erica Flori, 19:20.6; and 91, Sara Sloat, 20:38.6.

Fairfield fielded two runners in the boys' jv race of 3,200 meters. Finishing 90th overall in a time of 15:11 was Robert McPherson, and Daniel Barker was 95th in 15:18.7.

The FHS teams compete this Saturday at Neches and host the Golden Eagle Run on Oct. 3.
