Sales tax receipts drop in Fairfield
Sales tax revenue to the City of Fairfield this month comes in 39.48 percent below what was received in September 2008.
The city receives a sales tax reimbursement check from the state comptroller for $141,399 this month, compared to $233,654 a year ago.
Statewide, sales tax checks to cities that collect the optional levy are down 12.16 percent this month to $290 million from $330 million last September.
The September payments reflect taxes collected on July retail sales and reported to the comptroller in August.
Fairfield has experienced a 2.01 percent drop in sales tax revenue this year, receiving $1.86 million compared to $1.9 million.
That is a little better than the drop of 3.09 percent throughout Texas this year, $3 billion compared to $3.09 billion.
Teague experiences a 19.18 decrease in its September sales tax check. Reimbursed this month is $42,522, and for September 2008 was $52,616.
So far this year, Teague is showing 7.98 percent growth in sales tax month, receiving $438,209. Payments were $405,815 through September 2008.
Wortham is reimbursed $7,628 this month, down 19.3 percent from the payment of $9,454 received last September. For the year, payments are down 1.23 percent, from $87,475 to $86,394.
Bucking the declining trend is the City of Streetman which receives $2,805 this month, a 20.93 percent increase from the $2,319 reimbursed last September. Payments this year are up 40.7 percent, from $15,849 to $22,301.
In Anderson county, sales tax reimbursements drop 24.93 percent this month, down to $402,111 from $530,314 last September. So far this year, sales tax revenue in Anderson county has declined 5.41 percent, from $4.96 million to $4.69 million.
Communities in Leon county receive 22.19 percent less in sales tax income this month, $97,065 compared to $125,917 a year ago. Payments for all of 2009 are up 6.58 percent, however, from $1.06 million to $1.13 million.
Limestone county payments drop 11.48 percent to $247,978 from $280,158 last September. For the year, payments in Limestone county are virtually unchanged at $2.6 million.
In Navarro county sales tax revenue falls to $411,981, a decline of 16.79 percent from the September 2008 reimbursement of $495,111. Payments this year are down 5.59 percent, from $4.25 million to $4 million.
The City of Houston receives $35.7 million this month a drop of 15.63 percent from last September. For the year, sales tax income in Houston is down 1.17 percent to $376 million.
Dallas is reimbursed $15 million this month, a decrease of 15.48 percent from a year ago. Payments for 2009 are down 9.51 percent to $158 million.
