Fairfield schools celebrate homecoming this week with a football game, queen coronation, class reunions, alumni association banquet and other activities.

Homecoming is celebrated in a big way in odd number years, with the addition of alumni events.

Students are spending all week getting into the spirit with dress-up days. On Monday, students were encouraged to wear pajamas to class, Tuesday was "opposites" day, Wednesday was "dress-up" day for more formal wear, Thursday is "masquerade" day and students will wear the school colors of maroon and gold on Friday.

Four senior students are vying for the title of homecoming queen, with the winner to be crowned prior to the varsity football game between the Eagles and Crandall Pirates at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Queen candidates are Lilly Duarte, Reagan Amick, Kiresten Cox and Joye McElroy.

A homecoming pep rally is set for 7:50 a.m. Friday in the high school gymnasium.

During half-time of the foot- ball game, the 1979 Eagles team that shared a district championship will be honored.

The team posted a 9-2 overall record, advancing to the post season playoffs. The won-loss mark was the first winning season for the team since 1974.

Fairfield gridders won the first nine games. The only losses were to the Teague Lions in the last game of the district season and to McGregor in the bidistrict contest.

The ex-students association plans a meet-andgreet session from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. Saturday at Fairfield VFW Post 5872, and another session at 6 p.m. at the VFW.

The banquet, also at the VFW, gets underway at 7 p.m. and will be followed by a dance featuring music from the 1950s to the present.

Classes honored this year are from 1959 and 1960.

JORDAN GANDY Sophomore Duchess JORDAN GANDY Sophomore Duchess Opening remarks are to be given by Maurice Burleson, Don Thornton will sing the national anthem, the honored classes will lead the pledge of allegiance and Jimmie Lee will offer the invocation.

Lee, Class of 1960, and Thornton, Class of 1959, will provide a rememberance of their classes.

Former high school teacher Sudie Winkler is slated to be recognized in remarks by Bettye Lockhart Trask.

Mrs. Winkler taught in Fairfield for 18 years and at Mexia for 21 years before retiring in 1992.

Since retiring from the education field, she has remained active in day-today business of Lightsey Farms owned by her family.

A memorial candle will be lit and a roll of honor read by Mrs. Trask.

Banquet closing remarks and the benediction are to be given by Burleson.

Class also are planned over the weekend.
