Eagles host scrimmage
The Fairfield high school Eagles football teams worked out some more kinks Friday night when they hosted scrimmages with the Madisonville Mustangs.
Madisonville was the second of two scrimmages— the first was with West—-in preparation for the regular season opener this week against the China Spring Cougars.
"In some areas, we improved," FHS head coach Darrell Piske says. "We still have to get better at tackling."
Fairfield varsity gridders scored four rushing touchdowns and a field goal, giving up three touchdowns to the Mustangs.
Piske points out that he shared information with the Madisonville coaches, but that did not include the Mustangs running the option and veer, which caught the Eagles by surprise.
"Madisonville did some things offensively that put us in a bind," the coach says.
Finding the endzone twice each for the Eagles were senior fullback Lamar O'Brien and junior tailback Chris Burns.
Each team ran first and second team offensive and defensive sets, and an overtime simulation.
In overtime, junior kicker Rudi Castillo split the uprights from 42 yards out.
"We need to get our throwing game good enough to keep people honest," Piske says.
Quarterbacking the varsity scrimmage were juniors Justin Terry and Jacob Cain.
Both teams came out of the scrimmage with no injuries.
