Power plant study registration open
Applications are now being taken for the second year of classes at the NRG Texas' Limestone Electric Generating Station Navarro College Area Technical Center (ATC).
The ATC provides high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to gain invaluable employment skills and knowledge through a Power Plant Operations and Maintenance Certificate, an important credential for positions in energy and other industries.
Over two years, students will take 10 courses and earn 30 college hours.
Students that complete the program and earn the Power Plant Operations and Maintenance Certificate are guaranteed a job interview.
Last spring 20 students were in the first class at the Limestone Plant.
NRG provides the classrooms and equipment and pays a portion of qualifying students' tuition. Navarro College provides the certified curriculum and college instructors for the classes.
The 20 students that started last spring took a leadership class through the summer. They will be taking two new courses this fall, electric motors and motor controls. New students this fall will take basic electrical theory and precision tools and measurements.
Registration for this program is August 19 and 21 at the Navarro South Campus in Mexia.
