Barbecue contest set
Fairfield Lions Club hosts a competition of Lone Star Barbecue Society this month at W.L. Moody Reunion Grounds.
The barbecue contest on Aug. 21-22, which is open to all cooks, is being held earlier this year than in the past to avoid scheduling conflicts with other contests.
Categories are one-half chicken, pork spare ribs, brisket and pork shoulder. Judging will be conducted on Saturday, Aug. 22.
Entry fee is $60 and a cooked brisket.
The Lions Club uses the briskets to prepare and sell lunches at the Conference Center at the fairgrounds. Lunch prices are $5 in advance and $6 at the door. Advance tickets can be bought from Lions Club members.
Cooks compete for cash prizes—-100 percent of entry fees will be paid out— -and trophies. Top cooks earn points in the barbecue society used to determine the annual contest winners.
Special prizes are to be awarded for the best dressed barbecue rig and the best campsite.
To enter, contact Taz Martin at 903-391-4758.
Proceeds from the sale of barbecue lunches go to benefit the Lions Club scholarship program.
