Sandy Bell, local Museum Curator, reports large increase in Museum usage this summer. Says has taken a dramatic rise. She lays it off on tight money, economic troubles, high gas, etc. Many are vacationing closer to home, and I'm sure she's right. For a County our size we have most exceptional Museum Exhibits in both Fairfield and Teague. Both Museums face upkeep problems at all times. The Old Jail and one of the cabins in Fairfield are both in need of very major repair. I'm sure the Teague collection is no different. A few years ago the Bass Family contributed a fine new building in Fairfield, a most gracious act. But old buildings always need something, whether in Fairfield, Teague or wherever. Their contribution furnished every one of us with a badly needed facility, but the older buildings must be kept up, too. I know for a fact that the logs on the Dog-Trot cabin, north end, are rotting away very visibly, just down the street from the Courthouse. This must be rectified soon or they'll be gone forever…..Go by our local Museums, Teague and Fairfield both, visit and enjoy, throw a few extra bucks in as a donation, consider leaving a bequest in your Will, or making a large Contribution. We must guarantee that future generations have access to these same heirlooms from the past that we do.
Until Next Week . . . RALPH BILLINGS
