Judge W.R. Boyd, age 77, died at his home in Teague Sunday after a long period of declining health. Burial was in the Teague cemetery Monday, following impressive ceremonies at the Methodist Church in that city.

The Grounds Lumber Co. is building a neat tenant house on the lot adjoining the Assembly of God Church in East Fairfield.

In Kirven news: Mr. and Mrs. Lester Blount and Olin Sheffield of Houston visited Mr. and Mrs. T.L. Sheffield and family the past weekend. Misses Sadie Mae and Dottie Fay accompanied them home for an extended visit.

Miss Christine Bond was the charming hostess to a large group of young people at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Bowlen Bond, Thursday evening. A scavenger hunt was held and won by Erma Benbrook and Lee Judson Davis.

The National Theatre in Mexia, "the coolest place in the Bi-Stone Empire" will feature Will Rogers in "Handy Andy" next week. New low price is 25 cents anytime.

Public hearing for the Freestone County budget will be Aug. 25. County judge S.B. Carroll, Jr. says that taxpayers have the privilege to be present at the hearing at county auditor E.F. Glazener's office. Budget for 1960 will be considered.

Mrs. Betty Holeman of Streetman is the new clerk at the local selective service office. She succeeds Estelle Dodds, acting clerk since the resignation of Mrs. Faye Hutchison.

The Liquigals birthday club met Monday at the home of Mrs. Jack Pate. Mrs. Horace Wayne Carroll was welcomed as a new member. Birthday gifts were presented to Mrs. W.H. Cherry and Mrs. Dwayne Chappell. Next meeting will be held Oct. 5 at the home of Mrs. Andy Eaves.

Annual Streetman homecoming will be held Saturday, Aug. 8, at Paul Milner's tank. Lunch will be served at 12:30. Everyone is welcome.

First annual Fairfield Kiwanis Club radio auction will be held Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. Proceeds from the auction will support projects of the area Kiwanis Club which are youth related.

Mrs. Leona Montgomery, a retired teacher in the Fairfield schools, is crowned the new Reunion Center Queen by Mrs. Hope Baker, retiring queen. The queen is chosen each year by her peers at the center.

When Sam's Restaurant moved from one side of the interstate to the other, there was the problem of moving the tall sign to familiar to motorists traveling the popular highway. High winds last week caused the sign to lean, and workman returned this week to reinforce and straighten it.

Hill Ranch has cattle for sale: 50 open Brangus heifers, $425; 20 open crossbred heifers, $450; 20 bred crossbred heifers, $450; 5 Brangus bulls, 18 months, $600.

A petition making its way around Fairfield seeks to annex Fairfield Independent School District into the Navarro College District, bringing a 10,000 square foot junior college satellite campus to Fairfield, and a 9 to 12 cent property tax as well.

July passed with no triple digit temperatures officially recorded in the Fairfield area, but it still has been hot, and rain, which has been abundant until now, has been scant.

Fairfield Masonic Lodge No. 103 A.F. and A.M. will hold a spaghetti supper this Friday to benefit a college scholarship fund.

At a special "white coat ceremony" on Monday at Texas A&M College of Medicine, Georganna Davis of Fairfield will receive a white coat signifying entry into the medical profession. Miss Davis is the daughter of George and Sherry Davis of Fairfield.

Fairview Manor resident Katherine Jones Crenshaw will celebrate her 100th birthday Sunday. Mrs. Crenshaw was born Aug. 8, 1899 to Jesse Jones and Pinky Manning Jones and grew up in the Shiloh community with six sisters and nine brothers.
