Veterans in Freestone county were honored recently at a dance held in their honor.

The Veterans Appreciation Dance was held at VFW Post 5872 on June 26, and opened with a family from Oakwood who volunteers their time to honor veterans.

Youngest family member, a girl age eight, gave a patriotic reading. Her brother, 12, sang "The Hero in Me". Another brother, 16, narrated "This Ragged Old Flag" by Johnny Cash.

The band, Jeremy Lynn Woodall and the Grinders, performed at no charge.

More than 60 attended the dance.

Dance organizers note the donations of time and money from Jeremy Lynn Woodall and the Grinders of Waco, VFW #5872, the Roland family, Buzz Russell and KNES Texas 99.1, Gilbert A Daniel Company, Sonic, Rob's Drive-In, Dr. Pepper of Corsicana, Brookshire's Mexia, Walmart Mexia, Beltone Mexia, and donations from individuals.

All proceeds will go to a veteran in need.
