Teague coed earns degree at Tarleton
      A coed from Teague, Kelsie Burks, graduated cum laude last month at Tarleton State University in Stephenville. Miss Burks earned a bachelor of science degree in exercise and sports studies, with a double minor in mathematics and Spanish.

Grand jurors indict 22
Most on drug charges . . .
      Out of 22 indictments handed down by the Freestone county grand jury in felony criminal cases, 14 were on drug charges. The grand jury convened Wednesday, June 24, at the courthouse in Fairfield for its regular monthly sessions.

      The city of Fairfield's finances got the all clear when certified public accountant Frank Campos delivered the 2007-08 audit results to council members last Tuesday. Campos reported an overall increase in assets totaling $1.4 million.

Pancake supper set this month
Ladies support firefighters . .
      Ladies Auxiliary of the Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department will host a pancake supper July 17, with proceeds used to purchase items needed by fire department volunteers. "We have been asked to supply water for the firemen to drink when out on a call," says auxiliary president Shelly Baxter. "We also help the firemen during Fire Prevention Week.

Award given for reading program . . .
      A national award for excellence in reading was presented to the Freestone Navarro Bi-County Coop at the national conference held last month in Seattle, Wash. The Fairfield office was the only co-op in the country to receive the honor.
