FISD service awards are presented

The luncheon on the last day of work for teachers was held at the elementary school cafeteria.
Teachers and staff were recognized for years of service, accomplishments and on retirement.
Superintendent Katie Ryan welcomed guests and presided over the festivities, with assistance from deputy superintendent Sheila Dove.
Invocation before a catered fajita meal was offered by Fairfield high school assistant principal Carroll Cain.
Each campus, senior high, junior high and elementary, was recognized for student test scores on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills examination administered this year and on which students posted high scores in most areas. Principals Von Wade, Bryan Gawryszewski and Libby Harris were presented with eagle decorations to hang in their schools.
RECOGNIZED FOR 30 years of service are: l-r, Shirley Lott and Carol Chappell. Recognized for winning national honors in the Read Write Program this year were instructors Jo Anne Carrine, Becky Sandlin and Vicki Shipley.
FHS head volleyball coach Dennis Johnson was recognized for being named District Coach of the Year and elementary science teacher Tracie Wetzel was recognized for being named Teacher of the Year among Region 12 Education Service Center science teachers.
A special award of appreciation were given to Willie Haynes for stepping in to fill a transporation department supervisory position when his supervisor went out for surgery, and nurses Kim Crawford, Kayla Turner and Amanda Thompson, and nurse assistant Nicole Ferrero, were honored for their service to students this year.
Eight FISD staff members received rocking chairs on their retirement from FISD, although head girls basketball coach Tommy Fadal accepted the cash and donated it to a pair of scholarships this year.
NAMED TO THE FAIRFIELD ISD Hall of Fame are: l-r, Jimmy Clark and Tony Price. Also selected is the late Edward "Chief" Johnson. Those retiring and their years of service to FISD are: Carol Chappell, junior high science teacher, 30 years; Tommy Fadal, girls' athletic coordinator/basketball coach, five years; Denise Gregory, DAEP teacher, 30 years; Lue High, transportation services, 11 years; Julie Ann Medford, junior high librarian, 23 years; Tony Price, superintendent, 24 years; Ken Proctor, transportation services, seven years; and Martha Thompson, co-op counselor, 32 years.
Service pins were presented to staff members for 5-30 years of employment with the district.
Receiving 5-year pins were: Tommy Fadal, Russell Holland, Lupe Barlow, Robert Shipley, Mikki Akers, Emily Beaver, Melanie Bonner, Monica Franklin, Amanda Thompson, Crystal Thill, Terry McElroy, LaWanda Walker, Sid Ivy and David Wren.
Getting 10-year pins were: Wilbert Hunter, Donna Landers, Debbie Rash, Jeffrey Wright, Sheila Johnson, Tammy Sanders, Melanie Schauwecker, Elizabeth Harris, Kim Mooneyham, Richard Eubank, Patricia Kingsley, Robin Pagel, Ron Harris and Sam Ferguson.
2008 TEACHERS OF THE YEAR in Fairfield are: l-r, Brian Merrick, Cindy Neal, Gina Robinson and Donna Housewright. Earning 15-year pins were: Brian Merrick, Vickie Moseley, Jina Fuller, Patricia Harper and Susan Miller.
Awarded 25-year pins were: Virginia Kraus and Sherrie Minze.
Receiving 30-year pins were: Carol Chappell and Shirley Lott.
More than 20 teachers and staff received backpacks and certificates for maintaining perfect attendance during the 2009-10 school term. They were: John Bear, Von Wade, Bryan Gawryszewski, Gust Witt, Rachel Bossier, Barbara Dodds, Kristy Richmond, Tina Manning, LaWanda Walker, Elaine Ezell, Mary Golden, Alma Proctor, Judy Rask, Diana Rice, Sam Ferguson, Dorthy Price, Victor Boughton, Scott Thomason, Ty Hand, Ruben Madera and Arland Thill.
Inducted into the FISD Educator Hall of Fame were Price, retired intermediate school principal Jimmy Clark and the late Edward "Chief" Johnson.
In addition, Price was presented a pewter plate with an engraved plaque thanking him for his years of service to FISD as high school assistant principal, junior high principal, deputy superintendent and superintendent over a 24- year span in Fairfield.

Recognized as teachers of the year this year were Cindy Neal at the elementary school, Gina Robinson at the junior high, Brian Merrick at FHS and Donna Housewright for the district.
