Fairfield Eagles make All-District

Seven members of the Fairfield high school Eagles baseball team earned All-District honors this season.

The District 20-AAA list includes three Eagles on the first team and four on second team.

Fairfield posted a 3-7 record in district and were 10-15 for the year.

Unanimous first team pick was FHS sophomore pitcher Justin Terry who was 2-2 in district starts.

Terry, who pitched a no-hitter against Crockett, struck out 27 batters in 27.33 innings and had a 2.82 earned run average.

The athlete also plays football and basketball.

Senior J.R. Vaughn earned first team honors at first base. During the district season he batted .432 and stole six bases.

Vaughn made second team All-District last year as a utility player and also played football.

Infielder at large Evan Simpson, a junior student, is a first team pick this year. Simpson batted .429, with a .786 slugging percentage, hit two home runs and four doubles, had 11 RBI and scored nine times.

He was honorable mention in football at outside linebacker and also plays basketball.

Freshman Caleb Gunnels made second team All- District as a pitcher, going 1-1 with a 2.33 ERA. He struck out 15 batters in 15 innings, batted .333 and had five stolen bases.

Catcher Jake Jones, a senior who transferred to FHS this year, was picked second team. He batted .296 and posted a .406 onbase percentage.

Junior Cullen Minze was picked second team infield. He batted .355, had four RBI and scored five times in district.

Outfielder Ryan Wyble, a junior, repeats as a second team All-District selection. Wyble batted .316 with four doubles and a triple, scored eight times and stole six bases.

Junior out fielder Colby Green made the honorable mention list this season, batting .182 with two triples, and stealing five times. In the 10-game district season he had 16 chances, making four diving catches and two assists.

Offensive MVP—Austin Daughtery, senior, Palestine.

Defensive MVP—Jay Maxwell, senior, Crockett.

Newcomer of the year— Cody Carson, sophomore, Athens.

Pitcher of the year—Sam Dunnam, senior, Palestine Westwood.

Coach of the year—Bill Miller, Crockett, and Tom Sikes, Athens.

Pitchers—Coty Willett, junior, Athens; Trevor Marsh, sophomore, Crockett; Justin Terry, Sophomore, Fairfield; and Colin Mason, sophomore, Brownsboro.

Catcher—Matt Jordan, junior, Athens.

First Base—Luke Solomon, sophomore, Athens; and J.R. Vaughn, senior, Fairfield.

Second base—Joe Mendez, junior, Brownsboro.

Third base—Joseph Smoldas, sophomore, Crockett.

Shortstop—Ben McDonald, junior, Brownsboro.

Infield at large—Kyle Jones, senior, Athens; and Evan Simpson, junior, Fairfield.

Outfield—Julius McPherson, freshman, Crockett; Ryan Mackie, senior, Westwood; Cameron Warren, junior, Brownsboro; and Carson Hutson, junior Athens.

Utility—Oscar Valdez, sophomore, Athens.

SECOND TEAM

Pitchers—Seth Gilkey, senior, Westwood; Jack Barkley, junior, Athens; Scott Spearman, sophomore, Brownsboro; and Caleb Gunnels, freshman, Fairfield.
