WHS names top grads
HEADING THE SENIOR class at Wortham high school are, l-r, valedictorian Amber Reece and salutatorian Kara Jantzen. The 33-member Wortham high school Class of 2009 is led by valedictorian, Amber Reece and salutatorian, Kara Jantzen.
The WHS senior class consists of A.J Sandlin, Amber Bush, Amber Hogan, Amber Reece, Brandon Byrd, Brian McQueen, Cal Johnson, Caleb Cowell, Cara Weempe, Casey Warner, Chris Neighbors, Christena Neighbors, Collin Blair, David Sinclair, Derek LeClair, Dillon Baker, Dustin Hogan, Dylon Hutson, Hillary Lambert, Jimmi Jackson, Jose Herrera, Josh Lansford, Justin McQueen, Justin Richards, Kambreshia Brooks, Kara Jantzen, Kyle McAdams, Patricia Spell, Racheal Clark, Tera Abbott and Tiffany Short.
Graduating with a grade point average of 3.82, Miss Reece plans to begin college this fall at Navarro where she will begin her studies in nursing and hopes to continue her education at Arlington's University of Texas.
The WHS senior is a member of Beta Club, yearbook, and Family Career and Community Leaders of America.
She was also active in University Interscholastic League, competing in writing.
Her athletic activities include softball, volleyball, cheerleading, and golf. The WHS senior is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Miss Reece is the daughter of Rhonda and Ken Kirkwood and Mike and LaWanda Reece.
WHS salutatorian Kara Jantzen will graduate with 3.7 grade point average and plans to attend Texas A&M University where she will pursue degrees in agricultural communications and journalism.
Her extracurricular endeavors at WHS included Family Career and Community Leaders of America, yearbook, Beta Club and Student Council.
During her senior year she served as president of both Beta Club and Student Council.
She was also active in basketball, volleyball and track.
Miss Jantzen is the daughter of Ron and Lynn Jantzen.
The Wortham Class of 2009 will graduate Saturday, May 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the high school's gymnasium.
