FHS softball exits playoffs
The Fairfield high school Lady Eagles checked out of the post season race Friday evening with a 1-0 area loss to Bullard.
Fairfield tied for first with Brownsboro in District 20-AAA and claimed a bi-district championship with a 3-2 win over Groesbeck.
Brownsboro, district cochampions, had a bye in the first round of the playoffs and fell at area to Spring Hill, 10-0.
The Palestine Westwood Lady Panthers finished third in district and exited the playoffs with a 4-0 loss to Robinson in the bi-district round.
The Lady Eagles managed just two hits in the area game with Bullard and sent just 23 players to bat over seven innings.
Senior center fielder Shelby Bayless rapped a double over third base in the fourth inning and senior pitcher Courtney Nelson singled to center field in the top of the seventh.
Bullard pitcher Erin King struck out 11 FHS batters and walked zero in taking the win.
Miss Nelson recorded seven strikeouts, and allowed three hits and a run. She faced just 24 batters.
Bullard catcher Alayna Kipp scored the lone run in the fourth inning when she singled, moved to third on a double and came home on a fielding error.
Fairfield ended the season with a 15-10 overall record and made the playoffs for the fourth straight year.
