UM Army plans work in Fairfield

More than 80 members of the UM Army come to Fairfield in June to help less fortunate residents repair and clean up their homes.

The group scheduled for the Fairfield mission trip come from United Methodist churches in Missouri City, Santa Fe, Center, Mt. Vernon, Baytown, Houston and The Woodlands.

Included are 85 youth and 35 adults who will stay the week of June 14-20 at First United Methodist Church of Fairfield.

Camp director and UM Army board member Randy Wallens reports that the orgnization is currently looking at projects for workers during the week.

Projects have been suggested by churches, Freestone County Senior Services and Jordan Healthcare, among others.

"We are doing the site work now. I would expect we will to 30-35 projects," Wallens says.

Work in the past has included building wheelchair ramps, painting, yard work and minor repairs.

The summer mission project targets people who are not physically or financially able to keep their homes in good repair.

Over the next 3-4 weeks, personal visits to Fairfield will be made to check out leads for the summer work.

Participants start and end each day with a devotional and church service.
