Softball team faces Bullard
The delayed Class AAA softball area playoff meeting between the Fairfield high school Lady Eagles and Bullard Lady Panthers is set for this Friday in Athens.
Game time is 6:30 p.m. and will either be a single playoff game or a best of three series.
Last week the Lady Eagles knocked off the Groesbeck Lady Goats 3-2 in Corsicana. The game orginally was scheduled a week earlier, but was postponed because of the swine flu scare.
Bullard is District 17- AAA champions and drew a bye in the first round of the playoffs.
The Lady Panthers compiled a 9-1 district mark and 23-6 season heading into the area game.
Fairfield posted a 7-3 district mark to tie for the title with Brownsboro, but was seeded as second team in district for the playoffs. The Lady Eagles have a 15- 9 overall record.
This is the fourth consecutive year that the FHS nine has advanced to the post season playoffs, but the first time since 2006 the team has made it to area.
Bullard last made the playoffs in 2006, stopping at the bi-district round.
Softball playoff action comes to Fairfield this Thursday when Huntington of 18-AAA faces Lorena of 19-AAA in an area game at Don Posey Field on Post Oak Road.
The winner of the Fairfield-Bullard game will play the Huntington- Lorena winner in a 1-game region quarterfinal game.
