In regard to the H-1N-1 virus, the staff at the Mary Moody Northen Library inspects all returning materials for damage and soiling. Antibacterial wipes are used to clean the facilities computers and phones which are available for the public's use.

As summer approaches, so does the library's Summer Reading Program which includes a reading contest and weekly programs.

The program begins Thursday, June 11, with the theme "Deep in the Heart of Texas." The group will meet weekly from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Interested readers can sign-up for contests beginning Tuesday, June 2. Volunteers interested in contributing to the Texanathemed programs can contact (903) 389-3574.

Story time at the library, which is held every Thursday at 10:30 a.m., will continue until May 28 when it will break for the Summer Reading Program.

Last month, director John Stevens attended a workshop for Small Library Management in Pflugerville where he received 10 hours of continuing education credits.

New additions to the library shelves include a collection of classic American books for young readers from the National Endowment for the Humanities: "Walt Whitman: Words for America", "Democracy in America on an Emigrant Train", "1776: The Illustrated Edition", "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer", "Founding Brothers: The Revolutionary Generation", "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer", "Founding Brothers: The Revolutionary Generation", "On the Wings of Heroes", "American Tall Tales", Paul Revere, Lewis and Clark, Caesar Chavez and eight others.

Adult reading additions include: "3 Willows" by Ann Brashores, "Breakneck" by Erica Spindler, "Cream Puff Murder" by Joanne Fluke, "Darker Place" by Jack Higgins, "Delia's Gift" by V.C. Andrews, "Don't Look Twice" by Andrew Grace, "Double Minds" by Terri Blackstock and "Graveyard Book" by Neil Gaimon.
