Fundraiser for American Cancer Society . . .
The 2009 version of Freestone County Relay for Life, a fundraiser benefitting American Cancer Society, opens its overnight run Friday at Eagle Field in Fairfield. This is the 11th year for the event which has raised about $750,000—-about $72,000 was raised in the anaugural event in 1998, and more than $100,000 was raised each of the past two years. More...

Fairfield fifth and eighth grade performance levels on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills mathematics examination show marked improvement from 2008 scores. Funeral services were held Monday for Opal F. Casey, 78, of El Campo who died Thursday, May 7, in Sugar Land. Mrs. Casey was born in Brady on April 25, 1931. She married Edward Casey on Aug. 26, 1977. For over 40 years, Mrs. Casey worked as a licensed vocational nurse at various hospitals and nursing homes including Teague Nursing Home and Fairfield's Fairview Manor. More...
