Wreck kills wrong way Dallas driver
A Dallas man driving the wrong way on I-45 north of Fairfield died Saturday morning when his vehicle crashed headon into a tractor-trailer rig.
The wreck occurred at 2:14 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the interstaste 9.3 miles north of Fairfield.
Killed in the wreck was Matt Burns, 24, who was driving a Dodge pickup truck.
Burns was driving north in the southbound lanes of I-45 with his headlights off when he hit a tractor-trailer rig driven by Kevin Rodriguez of Humble, a report by Department of Public Safety Trooper Fred Thornton shows.
The Burns vehicle burst into flames after the collision and the Dallas man was trapped inside, Thornton reports.
Peace Justice Beth Ireland, prectinct three, pronounced the 24-yearold dead at the scene.
Rodriguez was taken to East Texas Medical Center in Fairfield for treatment of minor injuries.
Investigation into the wreck continues.
