FHS Band plays at UIL contest

The Grand Band from Eagle Land scored a two in concert at University Interscholastic League competition at Groesbeck.

Fairfield high school band members competed in concert and sightreading to wind up UIL events for the year. Marching contest was held in fall.

"On stage we did very well," band director Bill Large says. "All three judges complimented them on a great performance of the march."

Concert selections performed by the Grand Band were "Freedom City March," "Prospect" and "Blue Ridge Saga."

Large reports that 60 FHS musicians played in the competition.

Sightreading earned the band a three rating.

The FHS jazz band of 20 members competed recently at Lorena and earned a superior rating.

Selections played by the jazz band were "Tuxedo Junction," "Basin Street Blues" and "Stand by Me."

Fairfield eighth grade musicians earned two ratings in both concert and sightreading competition this spring.

The 70-member eighth grade played "March to Castle Rock," "Fire Dance" and "Flight of Eagles" in the concert portion of competition.

Seventh grade musicians earned a two in concert and a three in sightreading this spring. There are 70 members of the seventh grade band.

The sixth grade band of 125 members competes Friday at Sandy Lake.

Spring concerts at the FHS auditorium are May 12 for junior high musicians and May 18 for the Grand Band.
